Sunset proposal in Sant Elm Mallorca

I’ve photographed a lot of proposals. But when Peter’s email came through explaining his plan, I had to stop and just sit with it for a moment.

Mia was on a work trip in Barcelona. Peter was already in Mallorca. On the morning of the proposal, Mia’s colleagues handed her an envelope — a boarding pass, a letter from Peter, instructions for a car, an outfit waiting for her at the hotel. She’d board a flight to Mallorca instead of home, not quite knowing what was coming, but knowing enough.

She knew as soon as she saw the envelope. That was the moment it started.

Peter wanted no flowers, no staged setup. Just the landscape, the light, and the two of them. So we went to the water’s edge in Sant Elm at sunset — that stretch of shoreline with Isla Dragonera sitting out on the horizon, going golden. He got down on one knee. She’d known something was coming since Barcelona, but knowing something and living it are two completely different things. The reaction was everything.

They’ve been together since high school. That kind of love has a particular quality to it — quiet, certain, completely worn in. It was there in every photo.

After the proposal we walked along the waterfront as the last of the light faded and they were just happy. Completely, simply happy. The easiest couple I’ve ever had to photograph.

Congratulations Peter and Mia. Thank you for letting me be part of it.

If you’re planning a surprise proposal in Mallorca, I’d love to help. Get in touch here.
